Since the launch of the sleep feature on X, cryptocurrency has become the most ignored topic on the platform. Far ahead of politics, sports and finance. An unexpected verdict for a sector that has long dictated the pace on social networks.

In short
- Crypto is now the most ignored topic on X, ahead of politics, sports and finance.
- X’s “sleep” feature, launched on April 22, allows Premium subscribers to hide a theme for 24 hours.
- AI-generated spam and apps like InfoFi have significantly reduced the quality of crypto content on the platform.
Crypto, the big loser from the “sleep” function.
The character had a cold shower effect in the crypto community. Nikita Bier, product manager at X, confirmed this bluntly: since the launch of the sleep function on April 22, cryptocurrencies have become the most ignored subject on the entire platform. It has politics, the Iran conflict, sports and even traditional finance in front of it.
The principle of this tool is simple. Reserved for Premium subscribers allows you to hide a topic from the “For You” thread for 24 hours. Bier himself described it as a way to “modulate the quality of publications”. Users have decided: cryptocurrencies come first.
This disillusionment will not fall from the sky. The market is going through a tough time, the fear and greed index is at 29, firmly anchored in the “fear” zone. Google Trends tells the same story: global searches for “crypto,” “cryptocurrency,” and “Bitcoin” have been steadily declining since early 2026.
AI, the main accused of chain degradation
Behind this massive rejection is the designated culprit: AI-generated spam. Crypto messages feed themselves
InfoFi-type applications have largely supported this problem. Their model is formidable in a bad way: paying users to engage encourages them to publish relentlessly, regardless of quality.
X tried to regain control in January, changing its API rules to block apps that directly monetized content publishing. A useful stop but not enough.
Ki Young Ju, founder of CryptoQuant, sums up the absurdity of the situation: “ It is absurd that X would rather reject cryptocurrencies than improve its bot detection. » Criticism is fair. Endorsing the whole subject rather than neutralizing the accounts that pollute it confuses the symptom with the disease.
Height? However, X continues to invest in cryptocurrencies at the same time. On April 15, the Smart Cashtags platform launched for iPhone users in the United States and Canada, a tool that displays real-time charts of Bitcoin, Ether or XRP directly in the app.
The platform integrates crypto tools on the one hand, while users avoid them on the other. This paradox reveals a simple truth: the ecosystem suffers not from a lack of innovation, but from an excess of noise. As long as artificial intelligence drowns out the voices of real analysts, cryptocurrencies will remain a topic we prefer to keep quiet.
